Apple Mac OS X Leopard is here!

Mac OS X Leopard, the new love of Apple fans world over, is here. TechCrunch’s Duncan Riley gives his first impressions. Most people are happy with their upgrade, but sadly, not many are crazy over it as expected, and not even close to the launch of the phenomenal iPhone.

Apple surely must be rubbing their palms, and for good reason. Their fight with Vista - if you call it a fight at all - is just about to heat up, and is almost certainly heading Cupertino’s way.

And it is for a reason - Apple Mac OS X Leopard’s supposed competition is not really a competition at all. Read on and you will find why…

Vista vs Leopard

Vista - the wannabe

Vista is supposedly catching up with Mac OS X - or at least that’s what most Windozers want you to believe. Guess what, its one of these two things that is prompting them to say so - a)Tiger, the previous version of Mac OS X they must be referring to, b)or not know what they’re talking about.
Microsoft is notorious for rolling their photocopiers on most things coming out of Cupertino(that’s Apple’s HQ). And they tried to do the same with Vista against Tiger. However, Steve Jobs, the clever fox he is, knew it before hand.

When asked some time back about what the new features of Leopard are, Jobs quipped…

I don’t want anyone to start their photocopiers any faster than they should, so I am keeping quite

…clearly referring to Microsoft. Vista has features comparable to Tiger, and does a decent job of matching Tiger. However, the latest from MS cannot even beat the now-outdated Tiger! Put that into perspective, and you’ll understand why I say that Vista is no match for Leopard.
Features like Time Machine and Coverflow are superb, not to mention that Leopard has reportedly worked well on machines as old as a 1.6GHz Mac. Compare that to Vista, which requires upwards of 2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, DirectX 10 graphics card and SATA2 hard drives.

Time Machine backs up to an external HDD, compared to a partition for System Restore on Vista. In case of a HDD crash, Leopard will restore all data from HDD after an install, while you’d be left ruing your fate on Vista.

Now, tell me - is it fair to compare Vista, an OS from the past begone, with Leopard, the latest revolution from Apple?
